I had bought a Groupon and looked through my coupons yesterday and noticed the promo period was expiring tomorrow. So I called ahead and the lady who answered said, they couldn't extend it, but I could come in right away if I wanted. Was seated on one side of the hibachi table. Two more couples, one with a child sat down shortly to make six of us. The waitress brought us drinks. I sent the coke back because it tasted off, the sprite or 7-up she replaced it with was fine. The small bowl of soup was unremarkable. The salad was decent. I had the steak and chicken combo. It was good, although it could've used a little more sauce to flavor it. There was plenty to eat. The waitress saw to our beverage needs. The cook was nice. Could have put on a little more show, but he made an effort. I would eat here again and bring my wife next time. She was out-of-town this evening.

I've always driven by this place numerous times over the years and was curious to give it a try but never found the time. I happen to see a GROUPON on the restaurant and decided to make the purchase. My guy and I decided to give it a go last Friday. We walked in and was directed to a group table where one other couple was sitting. The space felt like we were in an old school basement...some of the ceiling paneling looked like it needed replacing, which I guess is understandable with all the cooking that happens in the main dining area. I was annoyed with my server since she seemed to be addressing my guy more and ignoring me. But once I got her attention, she was competent though not the most friendly. I ordered the steak and scallops combo while my guy ordered chicken. With all dishes they give you a few pieces of shrimp. For drinks we were looking at the different beers and my guy eyed the Asahi beer. He lived in Japan for a few years and remembered enjoying that brand. Unfortunately Japan 77 didn't have the brand in stock. The standard sauces that came with the meal weren't very flavorful to me. The mustard barely gave a kick. Our chef's show was nice to see but the bad part about the staggered cooking is that by the time you get the rice, the various seafood and meat items on the plate are cold. And the rice itself wasn't particularly memorable. Overall the meal was okay but I would've been disappointed had I paid the full price. What was worse is that a few hours later, my stomach was quite upset. Needless to say I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. If nothing else at least I can say not having the Asahi reminded me how much I enjoy going to Mitsuwa.

I had a groupon fine print says tip the amount of bill if you have good service service wasn't good and they added 20 percent to my bill for a party of 2 ..and we had to share 1/4 chicken breast for our chicken fried rice with 5 other people

The food used to be very good before they moved the restaurant to its new location. The sitting arrangement is not the best. The restaurant is not clean enough. The waitress are very difficult to understand plus sometimes we have waited 20 minutes to be serve. We never returned to this location

I wanted to try a different place other than the hibachi place I currently work so I bought a groupon for Japan 77. This place was not as I expected. Our spicy garlic sauce at our job is made fresh daily creamy consistency with herbs and spices and they're garlic sauce was literally a block on top of the shrimp crumbling and falling apart when the chef cut the pieces. The chef left an egg and a piece of onion right next to my plate on the table I had no idea why. Service was average it could've been a better experience they have a great space, cooking tables, but instead of trying to improve what they are lacking on it seems like they don't care.

This place was horrible. Do not waste your precious money on even a Groupon for this place! There's no appetizer menu, the groupon states they have sushi but when I asked for a sushi menu they told me they don't have sushi. My husband ordered a coke, it came out looking like iced tea. The syrup was clearly out. When we asked for a different pop, they told us that the gas was out on the machine but that they had bottled sprite. Only to be told five minutes later that the bottled sprite was flat. Our hibachi cook was BORING, he did not put on a show what so ever. And he cooked our food backwards. We got our meat first, veggies second, and rice last. Do not waste your money here!

Kind of a low-rent Benihana, the food offerings are pretty similar but generally a bit less pricey. The more notable difference is that they offer "toppings" on their shrimp and lobster dishes, the garlic topping was OK, for my lobster I took a chance on the egg yolk batter and it was surprisingly good. Other than that, you get pretty much the same show that you would see at Benihana, kids will enjoy all that. Plenty of tables but the night we went there were only two chefs on duty, so prepare to wait a bit before your show starts.

Disappointed about the VERY small portion of shrimp that I received with my $40 shrimp and lobster meal. Those who ordered lobster and filet mignon received a huge chunk of steak with their lobster, filling their plates, while I received my lobster and a ridiculously tiny square of shrimp. As I left and asked the waitress what is the normal amount of shrimp for that meal, she said "1 ounce". ONE OUNCE!! ... on a $40 meal!!! After taking away the "garlic breadcrumb topping", there were maybe 3 to 4 shrimp at the most! I felt really ripped off. I once raved about this place, but today I was quite disappointed. Never again, at least on the shrimp... which used to be my favorite reason for coming here.

If I could give it zero stars I would. The card board signs telling us no coupons from these places excepted was a very unprofessional turn off. The boxes of kitchen supplies piled high on the three tables by the door where very unsettling too. It showed the restaurant gave no care for its image. Moving on from let, lets get to our experience. First, when we tried to approach the hostess stand all we got out was "Hello we have..." before being rudely scolded to "you go, you sit". Believing everyone has their bad days we sat down. 15 minutes later the same rude woman came over to ask how many were in our party. First she asked the couple who arrived after us, then the group of seven who arrived after us, then us. My husband tried again to state we had 7:30pm reservations and again was rudely interrupted by the woman demanding, "How many!" She tried to seat us at a table with the party of seven. Considering the tables were set for eight, this was not ideal. The party asked for their own table and she told us to go sit with a different table while leading the other party to their own table. It was now eight and we were very frustrated. Once we sat down we noticed not only was their no waitress near our table but the menus had dried food on them. Grossed out I asked my husband to share his menu which had pen writing all over it. from prices to warnings saying they don't resturant.com coupons. 20 minutes at a table with no one even bringing water to us and seeing that their was only three chiefs working tables in no order what so ever we had had enough. After investing over an hour into this place with nothing but gross, dirty surroundings and rude staff we left. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK AND I SUGGEST YOU STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!

Choose a different hibachi! We've tried hibachi all over the chicago area and this was the worst. Servers were unfriendly and unattentive. Chef got out orders mixed up so they had to remake shrimp. The rice came last. They didn't do any of the show things like the egg roll, butter fly or volcano. They also did not have a dinner for two combo like most places so for what we got it was way overpriced. Also it was the greasiest hibachi we've ever had. The yellow sauce tasted like melted plastic smells. Drive a little further to pick something better.

The food was really delicious. The service and managers were not attentive and difficult to communicate with. The chef was on point and I give him all the credit. Upon arrive they give you a soup and salad with ginger. My date had steak and chicken and to her taste, it juicy and tender. I had the portobello mushroom (vegetarian), it was alright. The fried rice was the best part. What got me irritated was that I went with a groupon. They gave us the bill, which ended up being $60.00 (give or take). We mentioned the groupon and gave us a new total of $75.00, before the discounted groupon. We asked why it was more, and they said they include a 20% tip "to the chef" on all groupons. Which I know it doesn't go to the chef. The service was shady and I only went there on a groupon, which I shouldn't have purchased if I knew that (it wasn't in the fine print). Don't go on a groupon.

We had a groupon so gave this place a try. When we walked in, the place didnt look clean at all. And when I seen the menu prices It didn't make sense to me. The kids meals are way over priced. $15 and up. The menu isn't a big selection. And the sauces they had were not tasty. Add some spice to eat people!! Never going back again.

Worst experience ever. The place is dirty and not well kept, you can clearly see a dingy back room with mops and brooms from the dining areas. The service was terrible. And when I say terrible, I mean that after twenty minutes of sitting there with zero contact, I left. The hostess eventually stopped to speak to me at twenty minutes and asked if she could take my order. I asked if I gave her my order would I actually get served or would she continue to make me wait for more guests. I was dining alone this visit as I was in town on business. She said she would bring me soup and salad and if eventually no one showed up, they would serve me. Yeah, I left. Don't go here. Seriously, don't go here. Not sure if you caught me there, don't go here. Can I give them zero stars? One seems like a lot.

Omg This place is horrible I went there with my family, food wasn't that good and very expensive and on the way out waitress stop us at the door and asked us why we gave only 10% for the tip ???? Very rude !!!! I will NEVER be going to this place again !!!!

  • Patty K.

The service was terrible. Waited for 10-15 and no one even acknowledged that we needed seated. Finally, someone waiting behind us spoke up and requested to be seated. Once seated we waited nearly an hour for a chef to cook. The total dining time was about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. The food tasted good but the overall experience was well below average. Would not recommend and would not return.

INEXCUSABLE OWNERSHIP... Recently in May 2014, My family and I were totally insulted and utterly embarrassed when the owner decided to throw a temper tantrum in the main lobby of the Wheaton location. This behavior was displayed in front of several patrons as he refused our IMS dining script (Barter Dollars) recently acquired for his restaurant. This monster even had the audacity to tell my son (whom is 21) to get out of the room while he was ranting and whining about the problems he was having with his business. Really? Who does this person think he is anyway? Needless to say, that will be the day when some misguided idiot tells one of my family members what to do in my presence. That was by far the most bizarre situation I have ever experienced with any kind of eating establishment and we'll never go back.

This place really wasn't too bad. The food was delicious, and I enjoyed the show that the chef put on. Waitress was terrible though. After I finished my first drink, she never offered another refill. What's worse is that at the end of the night she came back up to our table and complained about us leaving a $5 tip. Mainly because we had the Groupon that saved us $40, she said we should tip like we spent $150 and not $110. We also gave the chef $10 after he cooked for us. She stated that it's custom to tip 18-20%. We stated that it's custom to give great service first.

Terrible terrible place for hibachi! Dirty and dim light area. Servers n service very slow! Food was alright. Had a groupon. Had golden shrimp n lobster with egg yolk sauce. Probably the best highlight of my visit. Been here before n had extra egg yolk on my lobsters no problem. The last time I came here, they wanted to charge me for extra sauce. Forget it! Bathroom dirty! Carpet tearing. Sushi was not fresh! Overpriced n not worth it without a groupon! This place should receive a one star but received two due to yummy egg yolk sauce!everything else is a fail! Not even the server or chefs there didn't make us feel welcome!

Thought I'd try again but nothings changed. The prices are super expensive, there's almost no show. My chef did almost nothing for the 'entertainment'. It litterally was him spinning his spatula for seconds and 1 quick egg toss thing. Another chef reminded him after we'd finished to do the common volcano thing. For $30-40 a dish, I just wanted more. If you don't care about the show or price go for it, food was ok, but i'm not going there again, there are better places less than 5 miles away.

This place used to be amazing!!! They would give great portions, put on a show and serve fresh tasty food. I have been going for the last 7-8 years and it was a great place to bring someone for bday or special event..the last 4 times it has let me and the family down..We purchased a Groupon and I know most places really don't like them but hey they put it out there...Any-who the portions are DEF not what they used to be all the prices went up, and the cook didn't even have fun with us and put on a hibachi show..I am sad to say I am not the first person to notice the changes we where going to take a friend as wedding gift and they declined to lack of not enjoying Japan 77 anymore...Either they need to work on it or this place is not going to make it...It was very vanilla food, it lacked luster and appeal....and the prices are through the roof not even worth a groupon in my opinion....Try a different Hibachi grill this one will disappoint..

DO NOT GO HERE. the place was DEAD and the waitress seated us without a greeting, she forced us to sit on the end table, we moved to the middle and she came over and told us that "people will run in" we were the only people there.. plenty of tables. we waited for 30 minutes for drinks- a luke warm corona with lime.. yum. all the signs in the place for the legal year to drink were wrong- they were all crossed out a re-written with 1992 and 1991- both that are wrong.. she did not believe i was 21.. ? she argued even with plenty of forms of ID- what? we waited another 30 minutes and she refused to take our order.. insisting more people would come, eventually our "chef" came out, argued about how I wanted my shrimp and steak- mind you $60 for it.. they only have shrimp and ____ now because they said all there food is "no good" we did not get a show, my cousin and I had a groupon to share- she yelled and bitched that we did not tip her enough and sent us on our way. I will tell you that the food was AMAZING- but the plates/silverwear were sticky and dirty, old food stains.. concerned about cleanliness and also the service SUCKED!!! HOW IS THIS PLACE STILL OPEN?! ITS OVERPRICED FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!

I have mixed feeling about Japan 77. The service has always been exceptional, and that goes a long way with me. The food has been decent and the presentation always good. It's kind of dependent on if they are having a good day or bad day whether or not I enjoy my experience or not. Always a great place to go with friends or even just that special someone. It's REALLY dark inside and seems 80's-ish... Is that a word? It is now. A few updates and a more upbeat atmosphere and I can see being a regular.

Meh is definitely a word I would use to describe the food, and if it weren't for the friendly service and great company there would be one less star on this review. I'm not exactly a hibachi expert, but I've been to five or six different Japanese steak houses, and this one is on the way bottom of my list. First off, the place is badly run down and strangely dark. With a few cosmetic changes I think this could be easily fixed. It just needs new carpet, paint, chairs, lights... Never mind. Just gut it. Secondly, their chicken SUCKS. Don't get me wrong, the flavors of the hibachi chicken were good. It's just that the chicken itself wasn't quality. Unless you consider stringy chicken chunks quality. I can go to the Japanese place in the mall food court and get the same chicken for $5. Thirdly, there wasn't much of a show with our dinner. Not that I really care about that part of the dinner, but the other family sitting with us had younger kids that I think would have loved to see an onion volcano/train. Alas, we'll never know because there was no aspect of entertainment beyond some sub-par knife skills (not that I could do any better, but I'm not a hibachi chef, now am I?). Fourth, and finally, why in the world would they serve the fried rice last?! I have a serious obsession with it, and it was pure torture having to wait that long for it. Also, the rice was by far the best part of the meal and I was too full to eat it. In other words, avoid this place at all cost! It's simply just not good on your taste buds or your wallet.

I bought a Groupon a while back because my family absolutely LOVES hibachi places and we're open to trying new places. And then I came on here and read through reviews, and I was WORRIED. Like, I was second guessing my choice to buy the Groupon, wondering what I had gotten us into. We finally went tonight and while the entrance is weird - you walk down a hall past the bathrooms before you actually get into the restaurant -- the service was good and the food was tasty. We had no issues using the Groupon. Now, how does it rate to our favorite hibachi place (Benihana, which reminds me - I'm not sure I've written a review for them yet, mental note: go check on that) -- Japan 77 is not Benihana, BUT, it can hold it's own. The onion soup was decent (not as good as Benihana), I actually think I preferred Japan 77's fried rice over Benihana's, the salad & ginger dressing I'd rate about the same. The food (filet, chicken, shrimp appetizer) was flavorful. And I absolutely loved dipping the chicken into their ginger sauce. So -- if you like hibachi - give them a try.

Don't waste your time or money! My husband and I went there for his birthday and we also had an Restaurant.Com $25 coupon. We have driven by several times and always wanted to have dinner there...WELLLLL we were very dissapointed. We got there aboiut 6:30 on a Friday night, place was dead. Only 1 table with 4 people so we were seated with them. We started with a soup (tasted like bland broth), then the salad, that was good. Then we sat and sat and sat for about 20 minutes before the cook even came to our table. Now we had all ordered appetizers, but he started cooking the fried rice first and then put on our plates the he started on the appetizers and half of our orders for dinner. For our main meal I ordered Filet and Scallops and my husband ordered Salmon & Chicken. So here we sit with fried rice and he puts my scallops on my plate and my appetizer of Golden Shrimp are still on the grill being cooked. No sign of my Filet. My husband had his fried rice on his plate and then was given his Salmon no sign of his chicken. It was like that for everyone getting part of their main meal with appetizers still being cooked. REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well I finally got my Golden Shrimp appetizer(it was ok have had better) So after that we finally got the rest of our main entree-my filet and his chicken. Then get this after everyone has their food he starts grilling the vegetables. By that time everyone was done eating. Someone mentioned he did not do the onion volcano and he said oh ok fine, so he did it and then he toss in into the garbage on his tray. I have been to several Japanese Steakhouses, this by far was the worst, glad we at least had a $25 coupon. OH, by the time we left around 8:00 there was still only 2 tables filled out of about 25 tables. I will stick with my favorite place-Kampai's Japanese Steakhouse in Mount Prospect.

WORST JAPANESE RESTAURANT EVER. We ate here because of my aunt's groupon. Save yourself the money and don't ever think of eating here. The steak was very bad! Their soup taste like water. Everything was bad. Expensive food for a very bad taste!

  • Brad S.

My family and I have been to this place many times and have begun using Groupons since it can be quite pricey for this type of restaurant. We went there tonight and again used a Groupon. When the bill arrived the amount of the Groupon had been subtracted from the post tax total instead of the pre-tax number. This had happened before and the server fixed the bill. This time, both the server and the manager refused to fix the bill even after I explained using an example of a grocery store and coupons. They kept saying again and again that no one else complains when they use Groupons, so apparently no one else checks their bill. They also claimed that the total would be the same, but I explained to then that a percentage of a larger number is more than a percentage of a lower number, but to no avail. In the end, I paid them the extra $4 and made sure the lack of a tip made up for that and some more. We will not be back and will make sure to inform Groupon as well.

This is one of my husband's favorite hibachi restaurant so for my birthday he took me here for dinner. The portion they serve is huge, I couldn't even finish my meal and I never had a problem finishing my food at other hibachi restaurants. I love the egg yolk shrimp they serve. It's so delicious, I wish hibachi restaurants in San Francisco have that on their menu (maybe they do but I just haven't came across one yet). I order the filet mignon and the meat was very tender and tasteful. Our chef performed a great show and I enjoy my time there. I would love to come back when we visit the area again.

I love the food and the atmosphere is usually a good time. Tonight there wasn't anyone there except a table of six and my husband and I. I tried very hard to enjoy myself but they rushed us through the service. I had to remind them I ordered sushi which didn't arrive until well into our meal. They asked us if we wanted a box for our food while we were still eating. The waitress brought the bill before offering if we needed anything else. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we wanted tonight to be special. Not really memorable in a good way. I gave 3 stars because the food was still prepared and tasted excellent. They need to learn a bit about customer satisfaction.

Just stay away if you don't want to be disappointed. The about 10 things on the menu and everything tastes bland. The only thing worse than the food is the service. Diners beware!

Lobster with Egg Yolk Sauce... that's where it's at, yo. The service can be a bit spotty but they do a great job overall. The hibachi chef's schtick is the same at pretty much all these types of places so don't expect it to be something out of the ordinary but it's still entertaining. The Mai Tai's and spicy mustard here are delicious and they make a great hibachi calamari as well. Getting the lobster egg yolk is a must. Getting the double lobster egg yolk order is a don't. Trust me. I did it once and then rented Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and had hallucinations like no other. I think I was slipping into a cholesterol coma. So again, come here, get the lobster egg yolk, but don't make it a double unless you're looking for a very uncomfortable out of body experience.

Went to eat with my husband and son. For the three of us our bill was over 100$, with out alcohol. Was it worth it? My husband and I ordered the filet, garlic shrimp and scallops... Very tasty! My son ordered the kids shrimp... He was still hungry after he ate the shrimp, so I shared my dinner with him. My son ordered a juice drink that had 3 juices in it...3.50$.... Come on. So we came to watch the chef, my son was excited and he was less dynamic then we expected. Seemed like he was just going through the motions... Disappointing.

Do NOT come here without the Groupon NOW! deal they have been having daily. Okay, the food was pretty good, on-par with the Wheaton location I typically frequent, but the place is such a hole-in-the-wall, unpleasant little building that it's sort of eerie. Service was okay, the hostess wasn't very welcoming but she kept my water filled. The cook was friendly but didn't do any of the typical flashy tricks (the onion tower choo-choo train, flipping around his utencils/knives, throwing food) that you ALWAYS see. He didn't do anything. We were lucky because the people sitting at our table were fairly talkative and likeable, so sitting in such a cramped area with them wasn't too awkward. Contrary to another review, my friends and I ordered from the normal menu, there wasn't any type of "Groupon menu." (Otherwise I'd be complaining to Groupon to get my $$$ back.) I feel like every time I go to Domo/Japan 77 the prices are a bit higher... Buy the Groupon if you're hungry and want some teriyaki. Don't come looking for a show or some nice ambiance or fantastic service... you won't find it here.

Yelp really needs a no stars button... How many ways can you say D.U. M. P This has got to be one of the most disgusting places I have ever been to. I really have nothing good to say about this place: -The inside was old and dirty-I should have know right when we walked in that it was going to be gross. -The tables were so sticky our arms stuck to them -The paint on the wall were chipping all over the place-clearly this place has been used and abused -I just felt dirty the whole time I was there -It looked like someone had a restaurant in their basement -Anything I ordered they said they did not have the correct ingredients -Our waitress kept on bringing us the wrong food (she had a lot of difficulty understanding english-she finally brought the sushi chef over) -The waitress poured me the wrong wine and I knew it but ordering was so confusing that I did not bother trying to get the right wine -We had sushi but when the "show" started at the other table next to us the smoke was so heavy that I started coughing (so the place is not clearly ventilated) Honestly this place is a hole (and looks like one too)...there are far better places to go....RUN do not walk away from this establishment...disgusting.

This is awful! The food has no taste because season is not used. The fried rice is the worst I ever eaten. Stay away! It's not worth the money or time. Given the poor quality, I wish I had purchased a Groupon instead of paying regular price for this foolishness. I have seen them offered and wish I could warn people to take the trek to Benihana or Kampai.

How this place has 3 stars is beyond me! Rude waitresses, overpriced, oily, greasy, food! And im having a hard time calling it that. We were rushed through our dinner, to get an overpriced, greasy bill.the only thing that took its time were getting our drinks which of course the mai tai was all juice.the place is filty as well. Yep, keep dimming those lights to cover it up..we then went for drinks across the strret and literally all 4 of us were in the bathroom within a half an hour..no joke! As the review below says, run out the door..this place is a rip off.

Really bad service!!! Place was also kind of dingy and dirty-also felt rushed-went on a Sunday-not even busy-our 6 year old did not order off the childrens menu and they were just rude-took almost 30 minutes to get a drink order-overpriced too!

Great food I got the filet scallops and garlic shrimp. The food was very good the steak was perfect the scallops were delicious and the garlic shrimp to die for. The only down fall was the vegetables could have been cooked a bit more. The grill man had no personally at all. You come to these places for the show and tonight it was so so.

This place is ok. It is not that great that you have to walk past the bathroom as you enter. It can get pretty ... unpleasant in the hotter days. Speaking of hot, I dont' think they do a very good job of ventilation because when it's hot, it's boiling inside. Or maybe, their ac was broken. It's not the nicest looking place, but the food is pretty good. Not too salty. Our chef wasn't much of a showman, and he mumbled a lot, but it was still somewhat entertaining. I think we showed up at the right time, because we were seated right away and our chef came fairly soon. The table to the left of us were waiting before we had taken our seats and they were served the same time. The people who came right after us, had to wait because there were only 2 chefs. I ended up getting the lobster steak with the egg yolk, after reading some reviews on here. It was pretty tasty. I have to say it's pretty expensive but we had a groupon which kinda tempered the high cost. I don't think I'll come here often, since it's not even a place you'd take someone to impress. In fact, I'd probably rather go to BH.

If you're thinking about eating here, stop, turn around and think again. My husband and I had a Groupon Now voucher and thought we would hit this place up for sushi. You can't use the Groupon Now on the sushi, so we opted for sushi by the piece. First, the fish was clearly past its prime. There were a few pieces that were discolored and nothing was all that flavorful. The sushi chef slipped us a few extra pieces that we didn't order, and when we got bill, it was apparent why. For two people, with a Groupon, it still cost us $50 for a few pieces of sashimi and some rolls. Nothing fancy or excessive. Then, we both got ill overnight and into the next morning. So the food was overpriced, not that fresh and illness inducing. Not a great date night.

I personally am not a fan of sushi/habachi, but my boyfriend is & we had a $25 gift certificate, which is why we chose Japan77. This was both of our first time at Japan77 & I can't say I'd choose them over Benihana, if I had to. It took a while to get drink orders, & the waitress was walking away before we finished ordering - then had to wait again to place our dinner order. Maybe thats how this place works? Not sure, but I was hungry & ready to order asap. My boyfriend was excited for sushi rolls, but our waitress told us we couldn't order sushi rolls because it was after 8pm. Our chef, Jesus, was amazing & very friendly. Good amount of food with our $30 dinners. I ordered the steak/shrimp dinner which included soup, salad, fried rice, & shrimp before my steak/shrimp entree. I could have used another MaiTai, but the waitress never even cleared my empty glass. I felt rushed towards the end of our visit (& we weren't the last customers in there). A waitress myself, I understand that by closing time, you want everyone out so you can clean & go home - (this place closing at 9pm, by the way) - But you shouldn't show the customers that you're trying to get them out, because quite frankly, it's rude. The waitress approached us twice trying to throw to-go containers at us, even though we were almost done eating/our plates were almost empty, we had to repeat ourselves that we were almost done & didn't need boxes. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to this place.

I sit in the middle of the road about my review of J77. At moments I feel it deserves 2.5 stars, and other times I feel it deserves 3.5 stars. So I suppose a solid 3 stars is fair. Let's just say you don't come here for the service. It sucks. Big time. The service itself I would give it a 1/2 star at best. There's one waitress who always has a 'tude the size of Glendale Heights. ((For those of you who frequent, you know which one I'm talking about. Clue: Darth Vader hair do)). The staff isn't friendly and you constantly have to ask for your water to be refilled. If you ask for anything, they look at you as if you're putting them out. Yo, isn't that your job?? To wait tables? I assumed so given the waitress title. Anyways....the biggest irritant - If you go during a slow time, you will sit at your table and wait until the table can be filled with other diners before they will take your order and begin the cooking show. One night I waited 45 minutes before my order was taken. My token of appreciation was a complimentary cocktail that was about 2 ounces...gee, thanks. True story. As for the food...you definitely get what you pay for. You will definitely leave with a gut bomb...and leftovers. I always go for the filet & chicken combo. For about $28 (I find the prices fluctuate) you get a full chicken breast, a decent size filet (about 6 ounces), soup, salad, veggies, chicken fried rice, and a shrimp appetizer. The teriyaki sauce is the bomb. As is the ginger sauce. The food itself isn't bad, but I have had better Hibachi elsewhere. The cooks are heavy on the sauces and heavy on oil and butter. BIG TIP: Buy a $25 restaurant.com coupon for $4.95 if you're going to go with another person. $50 dollars in the minimum you have to spend, and it's pretty easy to do between 2 people. It makes the experience worth it. I'm not sure how often I would hit up J77 if I was going to pay full price. For a $30+ dinner, I can think of many other places I would rather go.

I am not sure why this place got all these bad reviews. Me and my fiancee decided to try it out despite all the negative reviews. We got one of the groupon now deals. I for one did not see nor did they mention anything about a groupon only menu everybody has been talking about. The food was pretty good. We got their chicken, steak and shrimp combo. We also got a side of portabello mushroom. There was more than enough food for the two of us.. Between all the meat and the rice and vegetables you get it's very overwhelming. The staff was polite and the cook was pretty good and entertaining.. Our drinks were filled and order was taken right away.with out feeling rushed on anything. All in all it was a pleasant experience despite all the negative reviews. The prices were not bad pretty on par for what you would spend just about anywhere for two or more people. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody.

We had just bought a groupon and then were really discouraged when we read reviews. We were pleasently suprised to find good service, perfectly cooked meats and an overall delicious meal. We ordered Hibachi chicken and shrimp and Hibachi steak & scallops. All tasted fantastic. The scallops melted in your mouth and the steak had perfect flavour. The fried rice was much better than Benihanas in flavour. Salad dressing... was ok. Either way, we had a great time, the chef was skilled, and we loved the cozy atmosphere. Definetly coming back!

I went here last week with some friends to celebrate her birthday. It was a nice enough place. I can't say it was totally outstanding, but a good quality, solid meal. I feel that the food seemed a bit bland. Not the deliciousness I remember when I went to a hibachi place before. The service was great, very attentive. The server as well as the hibachi chef were amicable and entertaining. However, the food was just OK.

I visited J77 many time in the past but had not been there in almost 15 years. Bought an Amazon Local coupon and went to redeem to find the restaurant empty (it was early), dirty and consumed in a stench of rancid oil or other disgusting, unappetizing aroma emenating from the dining room. We turned and left due to this smell. Perhaps it is not noticible when tables are full and the grills are in use. I am disappointed that the fond memories of J77 will be replaced by such a foul experience.

I was surprised that this place was halfway decent but To walk in and immediately see toilets isn't the most appetizing way to start a meal. There were quite a few teppanyaki tables and my husband and i were the first ones there. Considering it was a Friday at 11.30 till 12.15pm, you would think there would be more people, but in the 45mins that we were there only 2 more people came in. The food wasn't spectacular but it's teppanyaki. It's a communal cooking stove. All the same seasoning, and all mixed together. It tasted like regular teppanyaki. Soup and salad before the meal was the same as other Japanese restaurant. The seats are close together but that didn't bother me. I guess Asian style. Most Americans need and want the extra elbow space. Overall we would go back. We just had teppanyaki in Walt Disney World and comparing that to this. I'd rather eat at Japan 77.

Japan 77 has been around a while. At least, that's the impression I got from walking into the restaurant. Everything else seems to confirm it; the menus that are kludged together with scotch tape, entrées whose price has been increased through the Sharpie method, entire items deleted using the Sharpie method (alas, Fried Ice Cream, you are no more) and last but certainly not least, Barbara Streisand's "Memory" echoing throughout the dinner hall. Rejoice, big hair fans, the 80s persevere in the dim and dark places of the world! Appetizers were... decent. The mushroom and chicken broth was good, and the salad... well... no one very well told me what was in it, so I have no idea if it was good or not. Sesame... something. Bolo was entertaining and did his share of the usual hibachi tricks, including the onion volcano and flipping various salt and pepper cans. it's what you come here for, after all. More encouraging, what he cooked tasted good; I had the salmon and calamari, while my wife had steak and chicken. It was cooked well, as was the $1 add-on garlic bread. The fried rice here is quite good, enormous portions with two eggs, chicken and some vegetables. The food comes with ginger sauce, which I couldn't figure out what it should go with, mustard and wasabi sauce (hot!) and teriyaki sauce (sweet, but very plain.) I came here with a Groupon, which took $25 off the meal. I'm not sure I'd go here without one. I certainly believe Japan 77 has made a conscious effort to not change their approach with the times. It's sort of like the Bob Chinn's of hibachi, and you know if you're the kind of person that likes that kind of thing or not.

There is nothing good I can say about his place. Having grown up in the area, I have driven past Japan 77 countless times and finally decided to give it a try. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the place is that the restaurant wasn't clean even by Asian restaurant standards. Our waitress was not good. She had a terrible attitude and never once offered up a refill on our drinks. The food and "show" were even worse. The food couldn't be more bland. Both my fillet and fried rice had no discernible taste nor was it cooked very well. With no exaggeration, any Panda Express dish is leaps and bounds better. What was most worrisome is that the chef was using the same spatula to pull butter from a tub as he was using to handle the raw chicken. To make matters worse, every dish was cooked with this butter. As mentioned in other reviews, the "show" was nonexistent and the meal was way over priced. For two of us with no alcoholic drinks and a $25 off coupon the total was $72. I honestly felt ripped off when we left. We'll never go back.

This place is one of the 80's originals. It's been here forever and it's been awhile sense I've been here but I just got a coupon from them and might have to give it another try. Usually coupons aren't a good sign that business is doing so well but in this time of our so called beautiful economy, it seems everybody has a coupon these days. It was pretty cool when I used go here during the 80's & 90's and I shall update a review after stopping by for some shrimp flipping and fire onion volcanos.

GROUPON HOLDERS READ: The entire menu is set up for people that have Groupons. You can't go to this Japanese Steakhouse and actually order steak if you have a groupon. You have a "special" page and that's all you can order. The good food is other pages and you can't have that "because it is already discounted 30%." So they try to talk you into ordering from the discounted menu and using your groupon later--for food you don't want again? Here is the text from the Groupon: * For $25, you get $50 worth of hibachi-style steak and seafood, valid Sunday through Friday. * For $25, you get $50 worth of hibachi-style steak and seafood, valid any day of the week. Japan 77 Steak House flips and fires up a menu of steak, chicken, and seafood, prepared on a hibachi grill. Wake stomachs from a lazy summer slumber with savory combinations such as filet mignon, scallops, and chicken ($30.50); lobster and calamari ($27.50); ..... I only went there for the groupon. It's 22 miles from home. Thought it would be a fun date night. It was a funny date night instead. Our server was pleasant and cook tried to be entertaining but I was too blown away that I couldn't get steak at a steakhouse because I had a groupon. Food wasn't worth the money. My advice is to steer clear. It's just crossing a line to have a different menu when they've reeled you in with a deal that clearly is a lie.

I've had better. Service was nothing special. Fried rice was overcooked. Filet was well down which is not what I requested. Overall, the experience was mediocre. I give it 3-stars only because I had a Groupon! I would probably not go out of my way to go back.

I used to go to this place all the time. They have gone completely down hill. From the moment we walked in we were disgusted as the place smelled of urine. We should have walked out then, but I had purchased a groupon. We regrettably decided to stay. The restaurant was empty upon arrival as it was early. There was no music put on till another group came in. The XM radio kept cutting in and out. It was better with it off. The place was extremely dirty. Sticky table, dirty menus with new prices hand written over original pricing and old rice on a neighboring plate. The cook put no effort into his "show" and lacked personality. They must have been out of avocados because they substituted cucumber instead in the Philadelphia roll. The fish was obviously not fresh either. The hibachi was flavorless as well as the soup. We felt rushed as our server gave us to go containers not even half way thru eating. As I was filling out the credit card slip our server points to the money I put on the table and asked " is this for me and the cook"? I nodded and she snatched it up. we will never step foot in there again!

My husband and I love this place. We always have great service. This place makes Benihana look like Panda express. I always get teriaki filet, lobster tail with egg yolk and Hibachi scallops. The food is amazing. Your seated around the hibachi and you watch them cook your entire meal. It's like dinner theater.

I've always thought Hibachi restaurants are fun for the experiences, but aren't so great when it comes to the food. Unfortunately, Japan 77 Steak House isn't the exception. The first thing I noticed was its entrance. It was dim and a little unwelcoming. As soon as we opened the door, my best friend and I were surprised that the place was packed. It relieved some of our uncertainties. However, the hostess was no where to be found. Actually, there were many women who were holding menus and notepads, frantically walking around, but none looked our way. Finally after waiting about 7 (painfully awkward) minutes, the hostess acknowledged us. We had a 7:00p reservation and were shown to two empty seats among five other guests. It took us a few minutes to get comfortable and look the menus over. I ended up having the Steak and Seafood Combo w/Fillet Mignon and French-Garlic Shrimp. My friend had the same, but w/Teriyaki Shrimp. Both the steak and shrimp were unfortunately, just okay. I wish the Fillet had a little more seasoning. Some positives of the night was our Chef-very friendly/funny/talented. He was probably my favorite. The drinks were also great. I had the Plum Wine and a Mai Thai...both were delish. Japan 77 definitely gets 3 stars from me. Even though the dishes didn't blow me away, I still had an enjoyable night with my bestie :)

Five stars it is! We are sushi masters and this place is it. Can't go wrong with someone who's made sushi all their life. We love this place. So glad we came regardless of the remarks. It IS a good time!!! Make sure you sit at the tiny sushi bar, Mori will entertain. As for hibachi, didn't experience it can't speak to it.

A-OK is just about the best way to describe the dining experience I had here. Not the greatest hibachi I've had, but also not the worst. The portions were large, my girlfriend and I ordered teriyaki chicken with garlic, and egg yolk shrimp with fried rice. The traditional hibachi meal included the miso soup, and a salad with ginger dressing. The soup was very good, the salad was not so much. Too much ginger in the dressing, and lots of crunchy iceburg lettuce. The show itself was lacking, but the chef was holding a conversation with us the whole time, so that was fine. The food itself was alright, I was not crazy about the vegetables, and it seemed as if they put cole-slaw mix in the fried rice (which was much better after I soaked it in soy sauce). The garlic they put on it was in small blocks and I had to break it up myself, and it was lacking flavor. Over all, it was not somewhere I would recommend, but I can't say I will never go back.

Went to Japan 77 for the fist time last night. I took my dad there for Father's Day dinner since he had never had a hibachi dining experience. We were seated right away and got drinks orders in with in 5 min. and the grill master to the table with in 15min of being seated. The food was delicious! We both had Chicken and Filet Mignon which were cooked perfectly. The fried rice had a great flavor and I couldn't stop eating it. The grill master didn't put on a very exciting show but but made the food delicious which is the important part after all. This was a moderately expensive meal. Luckily I had purchased a Groupon $25 for $50 which made the cost much more affordable. Not sure I would go here without a Groupon or some other kind of special deal but the food was very good and I would suggest a visit.

Ok, yes they need new carpet, a paint job and an overhaul on the decor, but the food is fresh, the service is good and the chef's are very entertaining. We went this past weekend for my son's birthday so we took up an entire table. I wasn't sure why they seated us in the back corner but fine, no big deal. The waitress was super nice and humored us by teaching a new Japanese saying each time she came by. The chef really entertained all the kids and even let each one of them take the big spatula and flip an egg for fried rice. Again, not sure why all the bad reviews but we've been here before and they are pretty consistent. Its a little pricey but all these Japanese steakhouses are, and besides you get a ton of food and a good show!

My company had a dinner party here at Japan 77 and I actually really liked it! Let start with the decor, there have been reports that the decor of this restaurant was really bad, chipping paint n the walls filthy floors etc. not true the restaurant was clean, the staff were extremely helpful and polite and checked on our group several times to make sure there wasn't something we needed and filled our glasses with plenty of water and libations. I know that some of you may be wondering if the place was empty it wasn't every table was filled and there was even two birthdays at separate tables. The food was fantastic, very fresh I opted for the hibachi steak, chicken, and scallops which were all delicious. The hibachi show was fun and our cook/ performer was very pleasant and entertaining and involved some members of my group in the show. All in all I had a wonderful visit here and it won't be that long until my next visit (I'm bringing my girlfriend over the weekend) the only thing I could say is maybe they could have had better sake but still even that was good so come one come all. Japan 77 keep up the good work!

First, a chef who cannot do any teriyaki tricks! Waitress speaks poor English, and acted like she is above everyone. Then, a bill that totally a WHOLE $20 more than the actual cost. What adding mechanism do they use to do their calculations? I had to grab the waitress and tell her about the mistake on the bill. She did change it, but it really left a bad taste for us. We had been customers (a few times a year) for more than a decade. But we vowed not to return.

Met up with some 'burb-based friends and we ended up selecting Domo 77 as our destination. Went to restaurant.com and purchased a $25 gift card for $10, so got $15 off the meal. I had the filet and lobster, which came with fried rice and some side vegetables and a salad. All in all I liked it. I bet my boys (3,5) would think it was very cool. Sure my cook was not Japanese, not even Korean, but he cooked up a solid meal. I'd say high points would be the flavorful sauces and the dressing for the salad. I'd say the low points would be that the meal is a little pricey. Having been to Benihana and other cook-at-your table places, I think this place is solid, but I'd only go out of my way to eat there if the prices were about $5 per entree.

We just had a horrific experience at Japan 77. For several reasons..... 1. The place is SO dirty. Food on the walls, sticky chairs and the highchair we requested was almost unsanitary! 2. The host was extremely crabby and argumentative. We had a groupon which he was clearly angry about. He refused to allow us the get sushi unless we paid for it separately. A couple at our table actually got up and left without using their groupon cause he was so rude about the stipulations of it (btw these were not listed on the groupon) 3. It took 45 mins for them to begin cooking our food. 4. They were out of diet coke and instead served us very watered down, flat regular coke. 5. We received the smallest portion of rice ever! The bowls were about half full. 4. When they came with the drinks, the bus boy gave our 4 yr old a glass of wine which was orders by someone on the opposite end of the table. 5. Of course, after all this the bill was wrong as well I will say that the food did taste good, but it took everything we had to get to that point! Will never return.

This place USED to be one of my fav places, we actually used to come in 3 or 4 times a month, but we went there for the LAST time about a week ago. The food went down hill and the service has also. The owner is such a weirdo and treats his employees like crap, we witnessed this first hand one night when our server came out from the back on a very busy Saturday night screaming to the entire restaurant about how horrible he is. I believe it. It looks like they don't own a cleaning product in the entire place bc the tables are always dirty, busy or not. Yuck!!! The groupon they offer is a joke. I don't understand why they make a separate menu for it at different higher prices and a crappier selection of food! If they hate people using them then stop putting them out there idiots! So if your thinking of coming here, this place is dirty and the food sucks. There is a way nicer hibachi restaurant on bloomingdale and north ave. We go there now. Super nice place and the staff is awesome. Sorry Japan 77 you lost out business!

Let me start this review by first saying I don't this type of restaurant. I'm not a fan of Ju-Rin, or Benihanna. That being said, this place is a dump. It looks run down and filthy. I felt like a needed a shower when I left. If I wasn't there for a family member's birthday, I wouldn't have walked in the front door.

  • Kim S.

Oh man, this is the place that Kinko's forgot. The menus and table flyers are disgustingly torn, old, and crusty from one too many errant shrimp flips. They also have numerous funny Engrish typos, which actually added a star to this review. Meanwhile, the food was ok. Definitely the standard 80s suburb hibachi grill fare (In my hometown, we had a place called Jo To's, which always upset my stomach, coining the phrase "Jo To's run," which has a double meaning if you catch my drift.). Nothing was authentically Japanese about this experience, including the chef who was Mexican, but it's always fun to take a trip down memory lane. My one major criticism of Japan 77 is that the white sauce tasted off - maybe sour or maybe mixed with some cleaner. That was sad, because that sauce is usually the best part of the hibachi experience.

This place is horrible plain and simple! And like others on here I did have a Groupon for this place and wish I could have gotten my money back due to service!! First off it's so hot inside that place that my soda was warm by the time I took 3 sips out of it. They are very cold to you as far as attitude. I wish I could have given it no stars!! They do give you a very hard time about using the Groupon. And they even force you to tip when my Groupon I got said tip was included! First thing you don't force anyone to tip especially when serve is horrible! I will never go again and I have even went on their website to complain! If they hate Groupon users, THEN STOP PUTTING THEM ON GROUPON!!!!!!!

Went here on a first date and absolutely loved it. The food was amazing and I had so much fun watching the chef cook it right in front of us. I've never been a seafood person but totally tried the shrimp, scallops, and lobster. Slowly acquiring my taste for being the picky eater I am. I live right around the corner and didn't know what I was missing all this time.

A+++, been going to this place for years and I love it. The service is great and fast and the chefs are really entertaining, I would recommend this place to any one who wants to have a good time. I'm telling you, if its any body's birthday, you should celebrate it there. They also give you a discount of 12 dollars with 4 or more adults if its your birthday. The food there is also amazing, my favorite is filet and garlic shrimp. I cannot seem to get enough of the garlic shrimp. The price is also very fair because with every meal you get soup, salad, appitizer shrimp, vegetables and fried rice at the very end. I absolutely love this place and I am going back very soon. A**

Well...we went there after getting a "Daily Deal" from Groupon. It was Easter day. The Groupon was for $30 worth of food for $15. The waitress who was VERY nice, said that we could order with the Groupon separately off only a certain area of the menu, but the two kids we had would need to order separately and we'd be given 2 checks. I told her that the kids wanted to try the steak and chicken, so I asked if they could share 2 separate meals. She said "of course". I pointed out the "NO SHARING" notice printed on the menu, she said she wouldn't do that; stating "it's Easter!". So, everything pre-meal came, and was fine. Salad: Lettuce and maybe a slice of carrot and bland. Soup: salty, yuk! The food came... a lot of tapping of the seasoning bottles, a heart was made with the rice, and the cook used the spatula to make it look like it was thumping. Then he flipped it around before serving it to my 9 y old daughter. She liked that but we've been to other places like this and it was no big performance. After that, he's done! Main food was very good. No leftovers. Atmosphere is less than attractive. REALLY needs some attention... The most awkward part was after the chef left, the manager strolls over (saying nothing) He appears to be inspecting the clean-up of the grill from the chef. Again, he just stands over our grill, no acknowledgement whatsoever...UNTIL, he asks us something about our meal choices. At this point, he begins interrogating us about Groupons "deals". We, at this point ... are confused. His English is broken, but we can tell that he is passionately concerned that we have tried to score a deal underhandedly. I think that he thought we were trying to get (2) Groupon $15/$30 deals...maybe??? I can't say for sure because the waitress came and guided him away. When she returned, we asked if everything was okay and she said "oh, yes ~ don't worry about him" In the end, after all was said and done our cost for (4) dinner plates on Easter was $90, including tip. So much for any "deal" from Groupon. It's impossible here. If you are willing to take the chance that a Groupon might not be as good as it looks ~ don't do it here cause you'll end up steamed in every direction.

My daughter had previously been to the Japan 77 and enjoyed it. Based on her experience, we bought a Groupon to try it. If we hadn't had the Groupon, the meal for 4 would have been $80+. The portions are small and average at best. Our "chef" seemed bored being there. The restaurant itself was very dated despite having been open for only a few years. Pass on this one.

Benihana meets the Chicago suburbs - part of the small chain of Domo 77/Japan 77 restaurants in the burbs. Came here a few months ago for dinner on a Sat night with some friends. Place was pretty packed and service was friendly. Nice portion of food for the price (which seemed less than Benihana) and with the same tricks although they may not have been executed as well as Benihana. Everything was reasonably tasty - no complaints. Two of the more memorable items were: 1) shrimp with the fried egg yolk topping (tasted good but think I could feel my arteries clog after eating that) 2) fried garlic - a patty of garlic and breading that is fried/grilled into a hash brown-shaped patty - never had that but tasted great Bottom line: Liked it and would come back. Fried garlic is an interesting try. Ask about birthday and anniversary specials.

I used a Gr*upon because I thought I would get a good value. Wrong! First off, you sit along with strangers, which can be a hit or miss proposition. I was taking my girlfriend out for her birthday, and it was not my idea of romantic. We waited a long time just to get drinks. They only had two chef's working that night for about 20 tables and they were packed, because of the Gr*upon. (in case you didn't know, the chef makes your food for you right at the table, so with two chefs, you wait quite a long time and watch other people eat). Since I was drinkless, I was also thirsty, watching other people eat. I chose the filet mignion with shrip meal. You get to choose the sauce for the shrimp. I chose garlic sauce. Another huge mistake! The chef put four small shrimp on the grill in front of me with this strange frozen block of buttery bread crumbs on top. He put a lid on top of it so I didn't watch the pathetic cr*p cooking. I didn't taste any garlic, and the ratio of bread crumbs to shrimp was easily 12:4. I found myself eating the bread crumbs despite how disgusting they tasted. Do you know why? I was worried I was going to leave hungry. Prior to eating the shrimp, I was served a brown saltwater solution with a few green onion slices and a single raw mushroom slice, which they called soup. After choking part of that down, I was served a half cup of refrigerator-dried bag-salad with a strange ginger paste to top it off. And all of this food was presented to my girlfriend and I on scuffed melmac plasticware. Finally, the chef brought out some filet mignon. One for each of us, and they looked halfway decent. Everything was cooking fine, I ordered mine medium rare. I was watching expectantly, waiting to see if the chef truly knew what medium rare should look like, when all of the sudden the chef WHIPS OUT a fork and knife and starts chopping the steak into little pieces. And he cuts the next one, and the next one, and he starts to mix the mushrooms in with the steak and tosses everyone's food together. Why did he have to commingle my steak with someone elses'? I genuinely thought the steak I had my eye on was going to be the saving grace of the meal, but he dashed my hopes. He then apportioned the meat out to each person in a very unequal way. He served my girlfriend a really small portion, but luckily she spoke up and he gave her some more. I received a moderate portion, and wonder still if I even had one whole fillet, or if the mushrooms replaced what I thought I had coming to me. The people sitting at the end of the table were definitely screwed. And that poor gal that wanted her steak more well done was slighted the worst. Sensing from my quizzical look, that I was still hungry and trying not to explode in anger, the chef smiled and blurted out "Stir Fry Rice!" as though it were an apology. And everyone at the table cheered. But once we all had a chance to taste it, many of us left it in the bowl. It was sticky and burnt, in a sweet way. But it lacked good healthy ingredients and boasted excessive salt. The low-lifes we had to sit with shoveled theirs in a take-home box. Mmm...leftovers. I sincerely apologized to my girlfriend for taking her there! She knew I wasn't happy with the meal, and offered to pay, but I wouldn't let her do that, of course. She really deserved much better! We both did, for $74.00!!! Yes, I paid $44.00 on top of the $30 groupon (I bought for 15). Still I am livid!

This place is so dirty!!!!!! I would never eat there again. It was so nasty, plates were under the table. The grill wasn't cleaned off properly. I'm spoiled with Jurin in south elgin, much cleaner.

We had a 7 o'clock reservation, and were seated fairly quickly. About an hour later someone finally came to see if we wanted drinks, but only after a member of our party went and spoke to them about it. The Chef didn't show up at our table until 8:55, almost two full hours after our reservation. I wish I could say the wait was worth it. The chef clearly was in a hurry to get something on the plate and we didn't get our fried rice until after we had finished all out meat. This is contrary to practice at every Japanese steakhouse I've ever visited. The food was just okay. I might be inclined to give it 3 stars based only on that. Its expensive, even for a Japanese steakhouse. A meal is almost $30 a person not including extras. They charged my wife for *EACH* glass of diet coke they brought to the table. It wasn't like they were bringing cans or bottles that you'd expect a charge for. Plus she only had that many because we had to wait so long. To top it all off, they offered no discount, and didn't even offer an apology for the horrible horrible service.
